What is quantum computing?

Quantum computers could spur the development of new breakthroughs in science, medications to save lives, machine learning methods to diagnose illnesses sooner, materials to make more efficient devices and structures, financial strategies to live well in retirement, and algorithms to quickly direct resources such as ambulances.

Every computer chip uses bits. These are like tiny switches, that can either be in the off position – represented by a zero – or in the on position – represented by a one. Every app you use, website you visit and photograph you take is ultimately made up of millions of these bits in some combination of ones and zeroes.

Current computers manipulate individual bits, which store information as binary 0 and 1 states. Quantum computers leverage quantum mechanical phenomena to manipulate information. To do this, they rely on quantum bits, or qubits.

Quantum computing is being designed by handling three major concepts and they are

1)Superposition

Superposition refers to a combination of states we would ordinarily describe independently.

2)Entanglement

Entanglement is a famously counter-intuitive quantum phenomenon describing behavior we never see in the classical world

3)Interference

Quantum states can undergo interference due to a phenomenon known as phase. Quantum interference can be understood similarly to wave interference; 

How can quantum computer help us?

With the help of qubits the general restrictions of binary 0 and 1 does not exsit anymore and thus the speed and accuracy of problem resolving and adaption of computers will be more than we can imagine.

Google has already started using Quantum computers in developing AI for self driven cars.Cryptography will be another key decision. Right now, a lot of encryption systems rely on the difficulty of breaking down large numbers into prime numbers.It will also help in resolving astronimical equations which we are trying to solve for decades.

For personal computing we don’t require a quantum Computer. For our normal usage the new evolving silicon processors and chips and sufficiently enough. May be in future generations where we evolve into much higher lifestyle at that time we may require it.
